Indian Head Massage or Champissage derives from the Ayurvedic tradition that focuses on releasing the stress that has accumulated in the tissues, muscles and joints of the upper back, shoulders, upper arms, neck, head and face. It is a relaxing and rejuvenating treatment that helps increase mobility and flexibility in the neck and shoulders. It improves blood circulation, lymphatic flow and aids elimination of toxins. It both provides relief from aches and pains and is particularly good for reducing the effects of stress and tension.
A variety of techniques are used, including application of deep kneading and compression movements over the neck, shoulder and scalp areas. In addition, pressure points known as Marma points on the face are gently stimulated for their therapeutic benefits. Oils may or may not be used according to individual preference. Treatment takes place fully clothed sitting on an ordinary chair making this ideal for use in the workplace, in a quiet corner, break room or any public setting. The session will usually last from 20-45 minutes.
